What a cookie is

A cookie is a small file a site asks your browser to keep and hands back to itself on your next visit. The same rules cover anything else stored on your device for the same purpose — local storage, session storage, tracking pixels — so this policy uses the word cookie to mean all of it.

Why we have to ask

Under ch. 9 § 28 of the Swedish Electronic Communications Act (2022:482), a site may store something on your device without asking only where that storage is strictly necessary to provide the service you asked for. Everything else needs your consent first — freely given, specific and informed, and as easy to withdraw as it was to give.

Declining is a real option here. The site works identically either way: no wall, no reduced version, and nothing withheld from a visitor who says no.

What this site sets

The complete list. If it is not on it, this site does not set it.

NameSet byWhat it is forLives for
nm-consentnoemo.seRemembers the answer you gave the cookie bar, so you are not asked again on every page. Necessary, and set whichever way you answer.12 months
nm_localenoemo.seRemembers the language you read the site in, so noemo.se opens in it next time. It holds only "en" or "sv", and is set on your first visit.12 months
_ym_uidYandex MetricaTells one returning visitor from another, so two visits a week apart are not counted as two people. Analytics — set only if you allow it.12 months
_ym_dYandex MetricaThe date of your first visit. Analytics — set only if you allow it.12 months
_ym_isadYandex MetricaWhether an ad blocker is present. Analytics — set only if you allow it.2 days
_ym_visorcYandex MetricaHolds the state of one session recording. Analytics — set only if you allow it.30 minutes

The first is ours and is set whichever way you answer. The other four are Yandex's, they are set only after you have allowed analytics, and they are the set Yandex documents today — if they change theirs, this table changes with it. There is no advertising cookie on this site and no social widget, and the marketing group is empty.

The three groups

The bar sorts cookies into three groups. One of them is empty today.

  • Necessarywhat the site cannot work without, which here is the record of your own answer. These cannot be turned off, and the law does not require consent for them.
  • Analyticscounting visits and seeing which pages get read. This is where Yandex Metrica sits, including the session recording described below. Off until you turn it on.
  • Marketingmeasuring which advertisement or campaign brought someone here. Off until you turn it on, and nothing is in this group today.

What the analytics counter actually does

It counts visits, records which pages were read and in what order, notes where you arrived from, and builds a map of where people click. It also records the session itself — the movement of the pointer, scrolling and clicks — so a page that is hard to use can be seen being hard to use rather than guessed at.

It does not record what you type into the enquiry forms. Every field on this site that takes an answer is marked so that the recorder skips its contents, and we do not send it your name, your address or anything else you write to us.

If we add something to a group we do not quietly inherit your old answer for it. The bar carries a version, and adding a group or putting something into an empty one retires every answer given against the previous version — so you are asked the new question rather than counted as having answered it. That is why you were asked again when analytics stopped being empty.

Changing your answer

The bar has no memory beyond that one cookie, so clearing your browser's site data for noemo.se also clears your answer, and you will be asked again on your next visit.

You have not answered yet, so nothing beyond the necessary cookie is set.

Doing it in your browser instead

You do not have to take our word for any of this. Every browser can show you exactly what a site has stored, delete it, and refuse cookies outright — usually under Settings, then Privacy. Each browser publishes its own instructions, and they are more current than anything we could copy here.

Blocking all cookies is a heavier setting than it sounds, and many sites genuinely stop working. This one will not, beyond forgetting your answer and asking again.

Other people's cookies

One third party sets cookies through this site: Yandex Metrica, and only where you have allowed analytics. What it sets is in the table above, and its own terms are at yandex.com/legal/metrica_termsofuse. It processes what it records in Russia — privacy policy explains what that means for you and why your consent is what permits it.

Nothing else is embedded. If that changes — a video, a map, a scheduling widget — it goes into the group it belongs to, appears in the table above with the name of whoever set it, and does not load until you have allowed that group.

Links out to other sites are a different matter: once you are on someone else's site, their cookies and their policy apply, and we have no say in either.

Changes to this policy

The date at the top of this page is the date of the version you are reading. When the list above changes, this page changes with it — before the cookie is set, not after.

How cookie data is used as personal data is covered by privacy policy, which sits alongside this one.

This site uses cookies. The necessary ones are already on; the rest wait for you. Cookie policy

Necessary

Remembers the answer you give here and keeps the site working. There is nothing else in this group.

Always on

Analytics

Counts visits, shows us which pages are read, and records how a page is used — never what you type into a form. Off until you turn it on.

Marketing

Would let us see which advertisement brought you here. Nothing is in this group today, and we will ask again before anything is.
